What is Porcelain Enamel On Cast Iron?
After the iron cookware is cast in the traditional method, a glass particulate called "frit" is applied. This is all baked in ovens between 650 and 760°C, causing the frit to transform into a smooth porcelain surface that is bonded to the iron.  

Caring for Your Lodge Enameled Cookware
Although the porcelain finish (glass) is hard enough, it can be detached locally if it is hit or dropped. It is important when storing your dishes to place some kind of internal protection on the cookware to avoid any knocks from other utensils. For even longer longevity, avoid sudden heating or cooling of the utensil. Do not use the utensil in the microwave oven, grill or fire in the open air. Also, although the dish is safe to use in the dishwasher, we recommend handwashing with dishwasher and hot water to keep its original color solid!

Caution! The cast iron utensils are not washed in the dishwasher.
